Maidenhead 19 - 12 Marlow
(league fixture)

Maids continued their good start to the new year with a spirited comeback to claim a satisfying 19-12 victory at home to their local rivals.

Marlow started strongly and stormed into a 12-0 lead within the opening 20 minutes as the sluggish home side struggled to contain the visitors’ mobile pack and livewire backs.

However, Maids gradually worked their way into the contest and reduced the deficit on the half-hour. The ball was quickly spun wide to winger Aaron Lambert, who beat his opposite number before being hauled down just short of the line only to pop up the ball for the supporting Jan Weddepohl to score under the posts and leave Dave Goodman an easy conversion.

The second period proved a much different story as the introduction of Steve Bourne in the second row and Dave White at openside flanker helped Maids to take control up front, with White’s incredible work-rate earning him a well-deserved try to level the scores.

The now dominant pack secured the victory 15 minutes from time, with an impressive pushover try touched down by No8 John Wanklyn and converted by Rick Thorley.
