Gosford All Blacks 18 - 12 Maidenhead
(league fixture)

A lacklustre display from Maidenhead 4ths left them with a disappointing defeat from a game that was theirs for the taking.

A bright opening, featuring excellent support running and offloading enabled the visitors to take an early lead with a try from second row Alex Lewendon, converted by Dave Goodman. However, Maids then seemed to become complacent and were off the pace for much of the remainder of the match, allowing the home side to forge ahead with two unconverted tries and a penalty.

A rare try from birthday boy Matt Filmore pulled Maids within a point. The hooker took a quick tap penalty five metres from the Gosford line and used his not inconsiderable bulk to devastating effect, blasting his way through the massed ranks of Gosford’s defence to touch down.

However, Maids’ hopes of snatching victory were finally extinguished by another Gosford try in the dying minutes.
