Maidenhead 6 - 19 High Wycombe
(league fixture) | |
Maids slipped to a 19-6 defeat against a younger, fitter High Wycombe 3rds at Braywick on Saturday. The home side enjoyed their fair share of possession and dominated the scrum until an injury to one of the Wycombe props meant “unopposed” scrums for the final 15 minutes, thereby blunting Maids’ most effective weapon. Unfortunately, some poor decision-making from a Maids back line that lost influential centre Jan Weddepohl early on with concussion meant that all they had to show for the forwards’ efforts were two penalties from Dave Goodman. Wycombe’s fly-half largely proved the difference between the sides, capping an excellent all-round performance with two of their tries. Maids take a much-needed rest from league action next week before another tough test away to Chinnor 4ths on December 4.
